Record readers around town

Body
If you have ever walked your dog through the Colony neighborhood in Rossford, chances are your dogs have met George Schmid, aka “George the cookie guy.” Three of the Riverside Drive resident’s favorite dogs are Laser and Storm, Samoyeds; and Rocket, Australian Shepherd, who walk with Mike and Kathy Schaffer a couple times a week. “Our dogs love George the cookie guy,” Ms. Schaffer said. “He spoils them with treats every time we see him. Laser and Storm think everybody they see on our walks are going to give them cookies now thanks to George.” Last summer, the Schaffers were walking their dogs in downtown Rossford and Schmid pulled over his car and jumped out to give the dogs a treat. Schmid, who doesn’t have a dog of his own anymore but has a cat that follows him around his yard, always has plenty of dog treats on hand and some days will visit with dozens of dogs while on his walks. He ends every visit with a friendly smile and says, “Thanks for sharing your dogs.” Thank you, George.
