Dear Editor:
As I was taking a walk recently in the cold weather, I realized I was a fairweather walker. No snow, no rain, no ice walks. But the men who work for us in the public service division don’t have a choice. They are out in all kinds of nasty weather, collecting refuse and recyclables, leaf and brush pick-up, sometimes in the pouring rain. Of course, there is the snow removal and salting the streets. They also repair potholes and clear out the sewers.
These men also take care of the park, cutting grass, trimming trees and emptying the refuse cans. They also clean the restrooms at the parks.
Someone also makes the city beautiful by planting bushes and flowers in strategic locations.
On a personal note, I called Jon Eckel and asked about the tennis nets at Municipal Park. They were up next morning, and were in use that day.
I’m sure there may be an occasional “beef” by someone, but by and large the city is well maintained. Do you like driving or walking downtown at Christmas time?
